Ensuring Compliance with Regulations – The Role of Crew Scheduling Software

by Tom LaJoie

Ensuring compliance with their operating regulations is a top priority for airlines and other transportation companies. Crew scheduling is an essential part of this process, with complex rules and regulations governing flight, duty, and rest limits for crew members. Crew scheduling software can play a critical role in ensuring compliance with these laws, helping to reduce the risk of violations and associated penalties.

At eTT Aviation, we have developed SkedFlex FCMS, a comprehensive crew management system that includes robust features for tracking crew member schedules, qualifications, and training, ensuring compliance with labor laws.

Ensuring Compliance with Regulations - The Role of Crew Scheduling Software

One of the key features of SkedFlex FCMS is its rules engine. The system is designed to keep airlines operating safely and efficiently, with support for US-based air operations under various rule sets, including 14 CFR parts 107 (drone ops), 117, 121.467, 121 Subpart S (supplemental ops), 125, and 135 Subpart F (scheduled & non-sked ops) rule sets, and 135.273 (flight attendants). For Canadian air operations, SkedFlex FCMS includes support for the Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs), including 703 (air taxi), 704 (commuter), and 705 (airline) operators.

SkedFlex FCMS also includes features for qualification tracking, ensuring that crew members receive regular training and remain current on their qualifications. The system uses early/base/grace month for US operators and 90 early/60 early/base month for Canadian operators. Grouping qualifications into Master Quals ensures all required training and currency for members are maintained. Qual completion events are scheduled via drag/drop and signed off with document upload and electronic signature, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.

Another critical feature of SkedFlex FCMS is its route building capabilities. The system uses named flight sequence routes that operate within a specified date range and on specific days for use in crew scheduling, ensuring compliance with flight and duty limits.

Automated OOOI (OUT, OFF, ON, and IN) times captured from equipped aircraft, along with complete flight log tracking, ensure that airlines and transportation companies have accurate records of crew member schedules and flight activities, providing the data needed to ensure compliance with regulations.

In conclusion, ensuring compliance with regulations is a critical priority for airlines and other transportation companies. Crew scheduling software like SkedFlex FCMS can play a vital role in this process, with features that support compliance with complex rules and regulations governing flight, duty, and rest limits for crew members. By investing in the right software solution, airlines and transportation companies can reduce the risk of violations and associated penalties, ensuring a safe and efficient workforce. At eTT Aviation, we are committed to providing innovative, comprehensive solutions that meet the complex needs of the transportation industry.
